Ritchie on Sherlock

The Hollywood Reporter says that esteemed British director Guy Ritchie, has been hired on by Warner Brothers to develop and direct a new re-imagining of the Sherlock Holmes character. He will write the script based on an upcoming comic book written by Harry Potter producer Lionel Wigram and a previous script draft written by Michael Johnson. The comic reportedly takes a fresh look at the super sleuth and focuses on a more adventure heavy story that features a less stuffy Holmes and shines a light on some of his more "obscure character traits".

Back when Niel Marshall was set to direct this movie off of Johnson's script, it was reported that the film would feature Holmes bare knuckle boxing and sword fighting. It was reported that this version, then entitled "Sherlock" would be akin to Batman Begins. Of course Ritchie could change all of that completely, but I hope he sticks with the pumped up action adventure storyline.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. More on this as it develops.
