Ryan playing Ryan?

Falling squarely in the rumor category for now, Moviehole reports that Phillip Noyce, director of such illustrious films as The Saint, The Bone Collector, and my personal favorite Dead Calm is not in the running to direct the next installment in the escapades of Jack Ryan. Although Noyce did quite well directing the two Harrison Ford installments, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, Noyce himself tells Moviehole that he has other commitments.

But here comes the juicy rumor part. From what he's heard, Noyce claims that Paramount is indeed planning a relaunch of sorts for the franchise, with a young hot star in the role of Jack Ryan. And that the actor being eyed up for the part is none other than Ryan Gosling.

Now while I support Gosling on principle as a talented young Canadian actor working in the harsh world of American entertainment, I am legitimately impressed with what I've seen from him and think he could definitely do this role justice. Just look at Half Nelson and you can see what talent this guy has, pair that to a good 'thinking mans' action film and I think you've got a winner on your hands. Of course for now this is officially just speculation, but here's hoping that this time they've got it right.
